ABOUT MARIAH KITNER

BIOGRAPHY

Mariah Kitner is a multi-disciplinary artist from Troy, NY, specializing in ceramics, painting, and digital works. Her art combines humor, wit, whimsy, and spirituality to re-contextualize contemporary themes through an art historical lens.

With a BFA in Painting and a minor in Art History from Pace University ('15), Mariah honed her skills during her nearly decade-long tenure in New York City. During her time in the city, Mariah held notable positions such as assisting and managing artists' studios, art consulting at Pop International Galleries, and curating shows, including the renowned SPRING/BREAK art fair in 2017.

One of Mariah's significant projects is the acclaimed 2014 blog, "If Paintings Could Text," which explored the intersection of internet culture and museum art. The blog gained recognition on platforms like HuffPost, Elite Daily, BuzzFeed, NYLON, and RYOT, amassing over 150,000 Tumblr followers. It was also named one of Tumblr's "Top Trending Blogs of 2014" and nominated for a Shorty Award for Best Tumblr Blog.

In August 2020, Mariah ventured into ceramics, employing this new art form to continue her exploration of paradigm shifts. Through her ceramic studio, Context Clay, she transforms ordinary functional objects into whimsical dreams, beings, and scenes.

Most recently, Mariah was granted a residency at the Skopelos Foundation For the Arts in Greece, in June 2023. This residency offers her an opportunity to delve into researching and reimagining ancient Greek amphora vases and classic red figure paintings, infusing them with new-age frequencies and mythological contexts.
